Houston Area Teachers of Foreign Languages is the only local professional organization for Houston area foreign language teachers. 

It is a professional organization that promotes the interests of foreign language teachers in both public and private elementary schools, secondary schools, colleges and universities. 

Its structure includes special language sections for teachers of ESL (English as a Second Language), French, German, Latin, Spanish, American Sign Language, Chinese, and Japanese.

The primary function of HATFL is to host the annual meeting that focuses on topics that are current and relevant in language instruction. This annual meeting is held in either January or February. HATFL also provides its
members with support through its extensive networking system.

Are you interested in a leadership role?

Houston Area Teachers of Foreign Languages is currently accepting nominations for teachers to serve on language committees.

Spanish, Spanish for Spanish Speakers, French, Latin, German, American Sign Language, Japanese and  ESL teachers are needed.

Language committee members prepare the tests for the Farrington Contest. They also assist with the planning for the Annual Meeting of HATFL.
