Spanish I Objectives

Students at this level should be able to:

describe things and people using the verb SER, descriptive adjectives and articles and making all structures agree appropriately.
describe activities that they like, using the verb gustar on a very basic level, and regular AR verbs, both in the infinitive form and in the present tense.
ask and answer basic questions about themselves and others using question words and showing an understanding of sentence structure.
express likes and dislikes about school, daily life, food.

Tú vs. Ud.

Food (very basic)
Descriptive adjectives that describe both personality and physical appearance


Telling time (military time vs. regular time)

Spanish II Objectives

Students at this level should be able to:

describe their pastimes (pasatiempos) using regular AR, ER, and IR verbs, GUSTAR, and other verbs like GUSTAR.
describe people and things, including characteristics, location, feelings, using the verbs SER and ESTAR appropriately.
describe obligations, fear, age, and feelings using expressions with TENER.
describe location and placement of things using prepositions of location.
compare one item to another in terms of size, characteristics, quality, and compare one item to many others as well.
describe events in the past using the preterite and imperfect (very basic)
talk about knowing how to do something vs. knowing someone (SABER VS. CONOCER)
replace a noun in a sentence using a direct object pronoun
use a reflexive pronoun to describe a personal action.
tell someone to do something using a formal or familiar command.
describe a person’s nationality

compare typical customs of the US with those of Spanish-speaking countries, such as:  shopping, eating meals, addressing another person, greeting another person.

Span 3 (non-native) and Spanish Advanced (non native) exam objectives

Over view of objectives: 


Parts I-IV  are multiple choice

I.Listening comprehension   - 10 questions ( students will listen to 2 short dialogues and answer questions about what they heard)

II.Reading comprehension -  10 questions    (2 short passages)

III.Vocabulary & Culture   - 14 questions   

IV.Grammar -   11 questions + a short passage with fill in the blank (5 sentences) with correct verb, object  pronoun, voc. 

Essay- students should be able to describe a personal  experience. Topics will vary.

Grammar Points:  present subjunctive, preterite, imperfect, reflexive verbs, object pronouns, commands, adjectives describing people and things 

Culture:  Art, Literature 


Oral part: this section is only for those that qualify after Section I ( I-IV) has been scored. Students will be given a topic to talk about.
